Vulture Restaurant

The sign as you enter the vulture restaurant.
Jatayu is a demi-god in the Hindu religion who takes the form of a vulture.
A group of us visited the new vulture restaurant outside of Pokhara. Himalayan Raptor Rescue has been influential in getting a vulture restaurant established at this site, and has donated the funds to build the observation hide using funds raised from donations and from parahawking flights.

Here are some images from our visit.

  1. Heather,

I finally had a chance to sit down and read your blog (hurray from winter break). It sounds like you are on a great adventure in a beautiful part of the world! The Himalayan Raptor Rescue center sounds like a great organization and a wonderful experience for you. Paragliding with the raptors sounds amazing! It was also very interesting to read about the decline of vultures due to the anti-inflammatory drug previously used in Nepal and the programs the raptor center has started to help protect the birds. Way cool! I look forward to hearing more about your work in Nepal and eventually re-connecting with you and Sean when you return to the states. :)

    Take care and safe travels,

    Anna
